【摘要】:Theuseofsoundspeedvaluestodeterminechangesintheelasticconstantsduetoappliedorresidualstressrequiresthatsuchmeasurementsbeofhighprecisionandlowbias.Forthatreason,specialevaluationteststodeterminearepresentativeprecisionandbiasforthespecifictechnique,method,andequipmentsetupusedaregiven.Speedofsoundisameasurethatdependsontheaccuratemeasurementsoflengthofpathoftravelandtransittimeorotherrelatedparameterssuchasfrequency,etc.Bothmeasurementsaresubjecttocertaininterpretationsandassumptionsandarehighlydependentonlaboratoryexpertise.Thispracticeprovidesameansofcheckingoveralltechnique.Thispracticeshallbeusedwhenitisnecessarytoassessthesystematicandrandomerrorsassociatedwithaparticularspeedofsoundmeasurementinasolidmedium.Itcanbeusedtocheckbothequipmentperformanceandmeasurementtechniquefortheseerrors.Itcanalsobeusedtostudyinherenterrorsinaparticularmethod.ItcanalsobeusedtoassessproposedcorrectionstosoundspeedmeasurementssuchasthephasecorrectionsofPapadakis(3,4).Theresultantprecisionandbiasdeterminedbytheuseofthedescribedblockrepresentsamoreidealsituationthanthesamemeasurementperformedinpractice,inthefield.Thus,theerrorforthespecificfieldmeasurementmaybelargerthanindicatedbythistest.Thistestrepresentsthebesterrorconditionforagiventechniqueandpractice.1.1Thispracticeprovidesameansforevaluatingbothsystematicandrandomerrorsforultrasonicspeed-of-soundmeasurementsystemswhichareusedforevaluatingmaterialcharacteristicsassociatedwithresidualstressandwhichmayalsobeusedfornondestructivemeasurementsofthedynamicelasticmoduliofmaterials.Importantfeaturesandconstructiondetailsofareferenceblockcrucialtotheseerrorevaluationsaredescribed.Thispracticecanbeusedwhenevertheprecisionandbiasofsoundspeedvaluesareinquestion.1.2Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
